The acquaintance of the two
musicians led to a long term relationship and a fruitful
collaboration. The first outcome of this was the rearranged
version of Marina's first album "Pote & Tipota"
[Never & Nothing], in 2004 [by NEFELI book editor].
Today, as a duet [MK-O], are working on a series of albums,
first of which is OVATION, their debut album, released
on December 4, by Hitch-Hyke.
The multitude of musical influences and the broad working
field creates an adventurous listening, hard to categorize.Extended
instrumental arrangements coexist with lyrical songs.
Rock, classical, techno,psychedelia, industrial, acoustic,
electric and electronic instruments as well as a palette
of samples varying from Cesar Franck to Son House,Pink
Floyd and Ministry, give a brief idea of the sound of
this album.
MK-O are initially addressing the greek audience, an intelligent, devoted
and well-informed audience (unlike what some may wish
to present).
Additionally the album will be released in a series of
other countries inthe near future.
MK-O second 2CD album UNREEL was released October 13th 2008 by Hitch Hyke. A colourful world of sound unreeled in 103 minutes. Not a pompous "concept album", but an endless musical coherence created by an imagination inspired by almost everything. Classical and jazz, psychedelia, progressive and new wave, techno and industrial, ethnic and drum n' bass and traditional greek. 15 out of 23 tracks are instrumental leaving a quite significant number of songs. The lyrics are both english and greek. The orchestrations even more solid than OVATION, with a strong presence of brass and strings, along with the standard electronic - rock band armory. A sense of complete characterizes UNREEL.
3rd album: BLUES FOR THE WHITE NIGGER is a substantial breakthrough for MK-O. While keeping their unique characteristics, they "dare" an album broadening their pursues. This is an updated concept album made of timeless ingredients such as blues, (white) funk but always with MK-O originality. BLUES FOR THE WHITE NIGGER is more outgoing than their previous albums with electronic funk dynamites: "Blackface", shades of blue: "White Nigger Blue" and powerful singles: "Star With No Name". Their imaginative harmony and [their resourcefulness in] inventive melodic production are present here as in their previous albums. Aspects that awarded them public & critics recognition ["Ovation" was voted in the top 20 greek albums of the past decade]. The lyrics here -even though written a couple of years ago- have a prophetic twist. A few years back they may have seemed exaggerated but they prove to be -unfortunately- very true today. Released April 6th, 2011 by Puzzlemusik. |
